• Do I need to pay to book a mentor?

  It depends, we offer both paid and free mentorship sessions. When you try to book a session, we will indicate if it's a paid or a free session.

• How much do I expect to be paid as a mentor?

  Our mentors volunteer their time to give back to the community and help their mentees grow, so as a mentor you can expect to facilitate both free and paid mentorship sessions. Proceeds from paid mentorship sessions are shared between the mentor and the MentorColor platform. You will get to choose if you would like to donate or earn money from paid mentorship sessions.

• I don't see the option to earn money, what do I do?

  We support most countries in Europe, North America and Asia for processing payouts to mentors but we are continuously rolling this out to more countries. By default, we will donate proceeds from paid mentorship sessions on your behalf and you can always change this on your payment settings page once that option becomes available in your country.

• How does it all work?

  Once you’ve signed up as a member, you’ll instantly get access to all our mentors and you can book them directly. We also match you with the best interviewers for mock interviews to help prepare you for that next job.

  As a mentor, you’ll be able to use the mentorcolor.org platform to facilitate and manage the matching with potential mentees and all video calls with your mentees will be using common video conferencing tool like Zoom, Google Meet, etc.

• Is MentorColor only for people of color?

  No. Our mentors and mentees come from all over the world. We are democratizing mentorship for all and we know that everyone, especially people from underrepresented backgrounds will benefit a lot from using MentorColor.

• What is the expectation for me as a mentor?

  Our only expectations are that you review mentorship requests as soon as possible so you don’t leave mentees hanging and also that you meet with your mentees for a duration of 1 hour.

• What do mentees need support with?

  It’s going to be dependent on each mentee, some will be looking to prepare for interviews, build a career plan, improve their leadership skills and general career advice. This spans across all Tech disciplines from Software Engineering to Product. The mentee will explain what they are looking to work on with you and you can accept/decline depending on if you feel you can support the mentee with their goals.

• What do I do if a mentor or mentee does not show up to the session?

  We value the time our mentors are taking out from their busy schedule to support our mission and we want to protect that. We also want mentors to respect the dedication our mentees display and also respect their time. To ensure that every member of our community feels respected, we don’t tolerate no-shows without informing the other party as soon as possible.

  If someone fails to show up to a session, we have a process on the platform for reporting no-shows and we take immediate action. We take no-shows seriously and could indefinitely suspend your account for violating our no-show policy.

• How long does it take to get a response from a mentor when I send them a mentorship request?

  It typically takes less than 24 hours to get your mentorship session confirmed. We will automatically expire your mentorship request if the mentor is unresponsive after a few days. This allows you to immediately book another mentor.
